To Kayla, My One True Love

I spent many years wondering what true love was.

And I finally realized that true love does not have to be perfect. It is the imperfections that make it so special.

And true love does not happen overnight. It takes time to build trust and intimacy. But when you find it, it is worth all the effort.

True love is worth sacrificing for. It is worth giving up everything for. Because when you find true love, you have found something that is worth more than anything in the world.

True love is rare, and it is a gift that should be treasured.

And when you find that rarest of gifts, never let it go. Because it is the only thing in this world that is truly worth fighting for, no matter what.

I grew up around several toxic relationships and as I got older things just continued to get worse and worse. By my late teens, I had seen divorce after divorce and anger turn to violence more times than I care to remember. All of those experiences left me extremely jaded about relationships and marriage.

To the point that I never really wanted to get married for the sake of avoiding the pain and heartache. But through it all, I still held on to the hope that someday I would find my true love. And I am so grateful that I did.

Because then I met Kayla.

It is not one of those typical love at first sight stories. She, at the time, had been going through a rough breakup and I was a 21-year-old nightclub bouncer. From the moment I met her, I was hesitant. I did not want to get hurt and I certainly did not want to hurt her. So I kept my distance, even though everything inside of me was screaming to get closer to her.

But there was something about her that just made me feel at ease. From that very first day, I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. And I am so glad that I did. Because she has completely changed my life.

She has shown me what true love is.

Somehow she saw through the facade that I had built up over the years. The me that was scared of getting hurt. The me that had been through so much pain and heartache. And she loved me anyway. She has accepted me for all of my flaws and she loves me even more because of them.

She has been my rock during some of the darkest times in my life. She has seen me at my absolute worst and still loves me. I cannot imagine my life without her.

I will never forget our first date because it was on that day that I knew for certain that I was going to marry her. We had known each other for a few weeks and she asked me if I wanted to join her at a party with some of her friends, I casually brushed it off and gave her some lame excuse about being busy but she would not take no for an answer. So, I reluctantly agreed to go.

And it ended up being one of the best nights of my life. We just clicked and everything felt so natural. Like we had known each other our whole lives. We talked and laughed and danced the night away. A few months later, we were officially dating. And the more time I spent with her, the more I fell in love with her.

She is kind, caring, and beautiful both inside and out. She is my best friend and my soulmate.

We have been together for over 12 years and we now have a beautiful 6-year-old boy. Like anything good and true, our relationship requires hard work and dedication to each other.

We struggle from time to time like anyone else but we also celebrate the struggles knowing that it only makes our love stronger.

Without her, I would not be the man I am today and for that, I could never thank her enough because she has truly saved my life. Even though we have our disagreements, I know that we can overcome anything as long as we are together. Because at the end of the day, she is my one true love. I will always fight for her, no matter what. And I am so blessed to have her in my life.

So, to Kayla, my one true love. The love of my life, thank you for everything! Thank you for being by my side and loving me unconditionally. I am so thankful for you and everything we have been through together. Thank you for being my rock when times are tough and thank you for being the perfect partner and friend that I need.

I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us together! I am so lucky to have you in my life and I will never take your love for granted. And I could not have asked for a more wonderful person to call my wife. I promise to always cherish and love you, for better or for worse, until death does us part.
