9 Ways To Stay Creative At Work

Drewbie Wilson • October 20, 2022

"It is important to remember that creativity is not just about art or design – it is a way of thinking. We should all be striving to find ways to stay creative at work. After all, creativity is what drives innovation and progress."

Do you ever feel like your creativity is being stifled at work? Maybe you are in a job that does not allow for much creativity, or maybe you are just in a rut.

Whatever the reason, it can be tough to stay creative when you feel like you are stuck in a box and there is no way out.

I have times when I feel like my creativity is being stifled at work and it can be tough to stay creative during those times. However, we must remember that creativity is a muscle and the more we use it, the stronger it becomes. Just because you are in a job that does not allow for much creativity, does not mean you cannot find ways to be creative.

It is important to remember that creativity is not just about art or design – it is a way of thinking. We should all be striving to find ways to stay creative at work. After all, creativity is what drives innovation and progress.

And who does not want to be a part of that?

So, if you are looking for ways to stay creative at work, here are nine ideas:

1. Get out of the office

If you are feeling creatively stifled, one of the best things you can do is get out of the office. Go for a walk, work from a coffee shop, or even just spend your lunch break outside. A change of scenery can do wonders for your creativity and help you to come up with new ideas.

2. Take on a new challenge

Challenging yourself is a great way to stay creative. If you are feeling like you are in a rut, take on a new project or task that is outside of your comfort zone. This will force you to think creatively and come up with new solutions. It can be anything from taking on a new project at work to trying a new hobby.

3. Be open to new ideas

If you want to stay creative, you need to be open to new ideas. This means being willing to explore different ideas, even if they are not your own. Try to keep an open mind, and you may be surprised at the creative solutions you come up with and the progress you make.

4. Brainstorm with others

Collaborating with others is a great way to come up with new ideas and solutions. Brainstorming with a colleague can help you to think creatively and come up with ideas that you may not have thought of on your own. Also, it helps you see things from a different perspective.

5. Take breaks

When you are feeling creatively stuck, it can be tempting to work harder and longer hours in an attempt to force creativity. But this usually does not work, and it can lead to burnout. Instead of working longer hours, take breaks throughout the day to give your mind a rest. Go for a walk, take a nap, or just step away from your work to clear your head.

6. Keep a journal

One of the best ways to stay creative is to keep a journal. This can be anything from a notebook where you jot down ideas to a blog where you document your creative process. Writing down your ideas can help you develop them further and keep track of them so you do not forget them.

7. Set aside time for creativity

If you want to be more creative, you need to set aside time for it. This means making time in your schedule to brainstorm, experiment, and just play around. It may seem like a waste of time, but it is important to give yourself time to be creative and explore different ideas.

8. Get rid of distractions

One of the biggest creativity killers is distractions. If you want to be more creative, you need to eliminate distractions and create an environment that is conducive to creativity. This means turning off your phone, setting aside time when you will not be interrupted, and making sure you have everything you need to focus on your work.

9. Be patient

Creativity does not always come easy, and it is important to be patient with yourself. The best ideas often come when you least expect them, so do not force them. The more you relax and let go, the more likely you are to have a creative breakthrough.

So always remember to keep these nine tips in mind the next time you feel creatively stuck. By following these tips, you will find it easier to stay creative and come up with new ideas. And who knows, you may even come up with the next big thing!
